The EcoCemPLC Advantage: As the next step in its commitment to sustainability, Lehigh Cement has developed EcoCemPLC, a new product, portland-limestone cement (PLC), that provides excellent performance but has a lower environmental impact than normal Type GU portland cement.

Lowering emissions, climate change and clean air are important to the people of British Columbia and they are important to Lehigh Cement. Manufacturing EcoCemPLC can result in up to a 10% reduction in emissions when compared to normal Type GU portland cement. With EcoCemPLC, Lehigh and its customers now have an effective means to make real and verifiable emission reductions. EcoCemPLC allows the production of concrete with the lowest carbon footprint possible.

Current Issues

• Concrete Solutions:  Concrete is a material that enables society to reduce air emissions in many ways. Concrete Highways reduce fuel consumption by heavy trucks and this reduces both greenhouse gases and air contaminates. Housing made with ICF concrete reduces heating and cooling requirements by up to 60% and this also reduces air emissions associated with energy use.

• Solidification and Stabilization of hazardous wastes: Cement can be used to convert many hazardous wastes into a less harmful material that can then be dealt with more easily.
