QUALITY OF LIFE

The quality of life in Canada is the envy of the world. It is for this reason that we must build a sustainable future – to be able to provide our children and grandchildren with everything that we enjoy as Canadians today.

Governments, businesses and individuals are seeking ways to build better, more sustainable communities, designed to enhance the quality of life now and for future generations.

Canadian Cement Industry Part of Global Industry Effort Towards Sustainability

“Think Global” – Through the World Business Council for Sustainable Development – Cement Sustainability Initiative, Canadian cement companies are involved in a global initiative to voluntarily implement strategies to protect global climate, enhance employee health and safety, reduce emissions and use fuels and raw materials responsibly.

“Act Local” – In Canada, cement companies work with communities and governments to contribute to social responsibility and enhance economic prosperity while continuously striving to improve environmental performance. As part of this commitment cement companies have improved energy efficiency by 11 per cent between 1990 and 2001*, thus reducing fossil fuel consumption and CO2 emissions per tonne of cement.

What is the difference between Cement and Concrete?

Cement, an ultra-fine powder, is the critical ingredient that locks the sand and gravel together into an inert matrix – typically representing 9 to 14 per cent of a concrete mix.
