Concrete Paving - Highways

Concrete highways reduce fuel consumption for heavy commercial vehicles. The rigid construction of a concrete highway reduces the rolling friction for heavy vehicles, which in turn reduces fuel demand. Numerous studies have been performed comparing asphalt highways with concrete highways. These studies have concluded that highways constructed from concrete reduce fuel consumption from 8% to 20%.

As a result of the decrease in fuel consumption there is also a reduced amount of greenhouse gas emissions.
